Exact messages this covers

  • PC5: Network Error

Check first

  • Is the terminal charging with the supplied adapter and cable?
  • Will it use Wi-Fi only, or Wi-Fi with a cellular SIM?
  • Is the Wi-Fi network secured with a password (WPA/WPA2)?

To set up a Poynt 5, charge it with the supplied USB-C adapter, slide the spring-loaded button on the right side down to power it on, and follow the setup wizard to join Wi-Fi. For cellular, add a Nano SIM in the right-side tray and choose the APN.

Before you start

  • The Poynt 5 is a single-screen handheld: the same screen faces the merchant and the customer.
  • It needs a secured Wi-Fi network (WPA, WPA2 or WPA2-PSK) to take payments.
  • Cellular models use a Nano SIM.
  • Poynt 5 is a legacy model; GoDaddy no longer sells it or updates its guide.

Steps

  1. Plug in the included adapter and USB cable; the small end goes in the bottom port below the Home button. Expected: the device charges.
  2. Slide the spring-loaded button on the right side down toward the bottom of the device. Expected: the Poynt 5 boots into first-time setup.
  3. Connect to Wi-Fi in the setup wizard and let any update download, install and reboot. Expected: connected and up to date.
  4. Cellular only: open the SIM tray on the right side with a pin, insert the Nano SIM gold contacts up, and push it in until it clicks. Expected: the SIM is seated; some connections start on their own.
  5. If cellular does not connect: swipe down, tap Mobile Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names and select your APN, or add it with the plus sign. Expected: the terminal connects over cellular, with Wi-Fi as a fallback.

If that did not work

Will not power on or charge (Poynt's checks):

  • Check every connection: adapter in the wall, cable in the adapter, cable in the device.
  • Hold the power button for about 30 seconds and release to cut all power, then try to power on again.
  • If it still will not charge, leave it on the charger for about 30 minutes; the battery may be fully drained.
  • If it still does not turn on, the unit may need replacing. Contact support.

Wi-Fi drops or PC5: Network Error: open Settings > Network Settings > Wi-Fi, tap your network, tap Forget, then reconnect with the password. If it shows Authenticating Network, restart your router and try again. Poynt also offers a Wi-Fi diagnostic: tap the search bar on the home screen, then Help, then Diagnostics, then Wi-Fi Connection.

Stop and contact support if

  • Never push a pin or any object into the microphone hole. Poynt warns it can be mistaken for a reset button and the battery sits behind it; damage can cause battery failure.
  • The terminal is swollen, hot, damaged, or has been in liquid: stop using it and contact support. Poynt 5 has no user-serviceable parts.
  • Any tamper or security message: stop, do not reboot repeatedly, contact Allstar support.

Notes

  • GoDaddy (Poynt's owner) lists the Poynt 5 as a legacy product that is no longer sold, and its help guide is no longer updated as of January 2025.
  • The guide covers charging, power, Wi-Fi, SIM and APN. It has no receipt paper or printer section for the Poynt 5.
  • Activation and the payment app depend on the reseller or ISO that boarded the merchant; Poynt says activation instructions come from the sales representative.
