Key injection and programming

Allstar Terminals: key injection service, pricing and how to order

Key injection loads the encryption keys a terminal needs so your processor will accept it. Allstar injects every brand it sells from 190+ processor key sets: debit PIN injection $20 per device, remote key injection (RKI) $35 per device, terminals you already own $60 per unit. Injected orders ship 2 to 3 business days from when the order is placed.

Ask Allstar AI about this guide

Check first

  • Which processor or gateway will the terminals run on?
  • Do you know the key set name, KSI or BIN number? (Your processor can supply it.)
  • Do you need a PIN key (for PIN debit), a data key (for P2PE or end-to-end encryption), or both?
  • Which terminal model and how many units?
  • Are these new units from Allstar, or terminals you already own that you will send in?
  • If you want remote key injection: does the device have RKI certificates from the manufacturer, and does your processor or key host support RKI?

This guide explains what key injection is, what Allstar charges for it, and how to order injected terminals.

Key injection, in plain language: a payment terminal cannot encrypt a cardholder's PIN or card data until the right encryption keys are loaded into its secure memory. Those keys belong to a specific processor, so a PIN pad keyed for one processor will not work on another until it is injected again. Allstar loads the keys before the terminal ships, so it arrives ready for your processor.

Three kinds of injection:

  • Debit PIN injection: loads the key that encrypts the PIN typed on the keypad. Required for PIN debit. $20 per device, with a certificate of completion.
  • Remote key injection (RKI): keys delivered to the device over an encrypted connection instead of on the bench. $35 per device. The device needs RKI certificates from the manufacturer and your processor or key host must support RKI.
  • Terminals you already own: send them in, Allstar injects and ships them back. $60 per unit.

P2PE or end-to-end data keys, and gateway or application configuration, are quoted per deployment.

Before you start

  • Know your processor or gateway, and get the key set name, KSI or BIN number from them.
  • Decide whether you need a PIN key, a data key, or both.
  • Have the model and quantity ready.

Steps

  1. Send Allstar the processor, the terminal model and the quantity. Include the key set name, KSI or BIN number if you have it. Email sales@allstarterminals.com, call 888-403-7066 or use the quote form at /pages/wholesale. Expected: Allstar confirms the key set and configuration and quotes hardware and injection together.
  2. Prepay the quote by ACH, credit card or wire. There is no card surcharge. Expected: The order is placed and the 2 to 3 business day clock starts.
  3. Allstar injects, programs and tests each device. Every debit PIN injection comes with a certificate of completion. Expected: Devices are keyed to your processor before they leave Allstar.
  4. Allstar ships 2 to 3 business days from when the order was placed, to you or blind drop-shipped to your merchant with no Allstar branding. Expected: Terminals arrive ready for your processor. No key steps are needed on your side.
  5. Sending in terminals you already own: contact Allstar first for the inbound shipping address, then ship the units. Injection is $60 per unit and the terminals ship back to you. Expected: Allstar confirms the inbound address before you ship; units come back injected.

If that did not work

If your processor's key set is not on the list, send the KSI or BIN number and Allstar will locate it. Key injection is always performed by Allstar; there are no key steps for you to carry out on the device. For anything else, contact sales at 888-403-7066 or sales@allstarterminals.com.

Stop and contact support if

  • A customer asks for key values, key loading steps, or how to inject keys themselves: stop. Key injection is performed only by Allstar; route the request to sales@allstarterminals.com.
  • A customer wants same-day or overnight shipping on injected units: stop and correct to 2 to 3 business days. Same-day applies to blank units only.
  • A SUNMI device is being injected: flag on the quote that SUNMI products are non-returnable, even after injection.

Contact Allstar sales at 888-403-7066 or sales@allstarterminals.com with the processor, key set name or KSI/BIN, terminal model, quantity and whether units are new or sent in.

Notes

  • The live key injection page and guide say 190 key sets; the owner's statement (2026-10-20) is more than 190, written as 190+. The 190 listed on the guide are the ones used most, not every key Allstar can source.
  • P2PE / E2EE data key injection and gateway or application configuration are quoted per deployment; no fixed price is published (live page, 2026-10-23).
  • Merchant ID or Terminal ID (TID): the live key injection page does not ask for these when ordering injection; it asks for processor, model, quantity and key set name, KSI or BIN. If your processor needs a MID or TID loaded as part of programming, ask us.
  • Never promise 48-hour turnaround; owner correction dated 2026-10-10 replaced it with 2 to 3 business days from when the order is placed.
  • Hours shown on the live key injection page (Monday to Friday 9:00 to 18:00 CST) are wrong; owner correction dated 2026-10-17 sets hours at 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
  • Whether a terminal previously locked by another processor can be re-keyed depends on that processor releasing it (live guide, 2026-10-23): ask us before sending in used devices.
