Exact messages this covers

  • NPM

Check first

  • Does paper come out at all? (Blank paper = roll reversed. No paper movement = NPM, sensor or mechanism.)
  • Is NPM showing on the screen?
  • Is the terminal standalone or driven by a POS? (POS-driven reprints must start from the POS.)

Use this when a PAX A920, A920 Pro or A80 feeds blank paper, shows NPM, or will not print.

Before you start

  • Have a correct 58 mm thermal roll on hand.
  • Know whether the terminal is standalone or driven by a POS. POS-driven reprints must come from the POS.
  • The settings menus below are inside the payment application and may require a password. Do not guess passwords.

Steps

  1. Blank paper: open the door, flip the roll so paper pulls off the top, pull out about 3 inches, close the door, tear off the excess, reprint. Expected: printed receipt.
  2. NPM showing: reseat the roll flat with the paper under the cutter and close the door firmly. Expected: in Auto mode the message clears on its own and transactions resume.
  3. NPM still showing with paper in: cover the paper sensor inside the compartment with a fingertip. Expected: clears when covered means the roll is not sitting over the sensor; never clears means a bad sensor.
  4. Need to transact with no paper: Func > Settings > Operation settings > No Paper Mode > Enabled. Return it to Auto Check when paper arrives. Expected: transactions run without a receipt.
  5. Receipts print but the batch report does not: enable Support Print under the MISC tab > General Settings in the application parameters. Expected: batch report prints.
  6. Reprint: Function > Reprint > Last Cust. Receipt or Any Receipt (standalone only). Expected: the receipt reprints.

If that did not work

A sensor that never clears, a mechanism that does not feed, or a parameter you cannot reach all go to Allstar support with the model, serial and app name.

Stop and contact support if

  • NPM never clears, even with the sensor covered: faulty paper sensor. Contact Allstar support.
  • Printer makes noise but paper does not feed, or the mechanism is damaged: contact Allstar support.
  • The application asks for a password you do not have: contact Allstar support. Passwords are never shared here.
  • The parameter change (Support Print) is in the PAXSTORE parameter file; if you do not manage the file, ask Allstar or your ISO to make it.

Contact Allstar support (support@allstarterminals.com, 888-403-7066) with the model, serial number, payment application, processor and what the printer does.

Notes

  • The Func > Settings > Operation settings > No Paper Mode path and the Support Print parameter are documented for PAX's BroadPOS-style payment applications. Other payment apps may name or place these differently, or not have them.
  • The NPM sensor location is shown only in an image on the PAX page; the text says to cover the sensor with a finger to test it.
  • The A920 FAQ's paper-reversal answer is written for the A920; the same loading logic applies to the A920 Pro and A80 per the paper-size table, but PAX does not restate it for them.
  • Sources are PAX Technical Knowledge Base pages (PAX's Confluence site, linked from pax.us).
