Ask Allstar AI about this guide

Check first

  • What is the exact model on the label under the terminal?
  • Does the terminal have a built-in printer at all (A35 and A77 do not)?

Most countertop and handheld card machines take 2 1/4 inch (57 or 58 mm) thermal paper. What differs is the maximum roll diameter: 40 mm on most handhelds and many countertops, 50 mm on some larger countertops. Buy the width your model lists and never a roll larger than its maximum diameter, or the printer cover will not close.

Before you start

Find your model below. A dash means the manufacturer's document does not state that value.

Steps

  1. Read the model name on the label on the back or underside of the terminal. Expected: you know the exact model.
  2. Find the model in the table and note the width and maximum diameter. Expected: you know the roll size, or that the model has no printer.
  3. Buy thermal paper rolls at that width and no larger than the maximum diameter. Expected: the roll fits in the printer bay.
  4. Load the roll following your model's paper guide, thermal side toward the print head, and close the cover until it clicks. Expected: the cover closes and a test receipt prints dark and readable.
  5. If the cover will not close or receipts come out blank, check the roll diameter and which way the roll faces. Expected: a smaller roll, or turning the roll over, fixes it.

If that did not work

If a correct roll is loaded the right way and the printer still does not print, follow your model's printer guide (see related guides) or contact Allstar support with the model, serial number and what the printer does.

Notes

  • Values are copied as each manufacturer prints them; nothing is converted. 57 mm and 58 mm rolls are both sold as 2 1/4 inch paper, but buy to the size your model's maker lists.
  • PAX A920 Pro and A80: the PAX datasheets read give only the maximum roll diameter, not the width. The A920 Pro figure comes from PAX's EMEA datasheet for the current A920Pro; whether the US unit matches was not confirmed. The A80 datasheet is dated 2022.
  • PAX datasheets are hosted on uploads.strikinglycdn.com, the file host paxtechnology.com links to; treated as PAX's own files.
  • Dejavoo Z8 and Z11 pages give width and roll length (2.25 in x 80 ft) but no diameter. An older Dejavoo Z8 page (PCI PTS 4.1 hardware) lists a 57 x 50 mm printer, so older Z8 units may differ.
  • Valor lists '57 mm x 40 mm' (VL110) and '57 mm x 50 mm' (VP100) without labelling which is width and which is diameter; reading them as width x diameter is an inference.
  • Left out because no current official spec was found: Verifone VX520, Valor VL100 (only the VL100 Pro is documented, with no roll size).
