Check first
- Which base do you have: Charging Base (M475-S02-00) or Full-Function Base (M475-S02-08)? The part number is on the label under the base.
- Which connection do you intend to use: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth to the base, 3G/4G, Ethernet, or dial?
- Has your payment application already been configured for that connection by Allstar or your processor?
This guide explains how a Verifone V400m gets online and how to cable the Full-Function Base. The V400m handset has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and (depending on model) 3G or 4G cellular. It has no Ethernet or phone port of its own; those are on the Full-Function Base, which the terminal uses over Bluetooth.
Before you start
- Check the base part number on its label: M475-S02-00 is the Charging Base (charging only, no network); M475-S02-08 is the Full-Function Base (Ethernet, 56K dial, serial, USB).
- Have the SIM card ready if you plan to use 3G or 4G.
- The terminal must be powered off and unplugged before you open the rear cover.
- Which connection the terminal actually uses is set in the payment application. Allstar configures this before shipping when the order is programmed; if your unit came blank, the application steps come from your processor or Allstar support.
Steps
- Confirm what your unit supports: Plus 3G (HSPA) or Plus 4G (LTE), both with Wi-Fi 2.4/5 GHz and Bluetooth 4.2. Ethernet, dial and serial are only on the Full-Function Base. Expected: you know whether you need the Full-Function Base.
- For cellular, install the SIM: terminal off and unplugged, face down on a soft surface. Slide the rear cover latch, lift the cover, lift out the battery, unlock the SIM holder and swing it up, slide the card in with the gold contacts facing outward until fully seated, close and lock the holder, then refit the battery and cover. Expected: SIM seated in SIM1 and the rear cover latched.
- For a wired network, connect an Ethernet cable from the network port on the back of the Full-Function Base to the wall socket. Expected: the cable clicks into both ends.
- For dial, connect a phone cable from the base's telephone port to a phone wall socket. For a cash register or PC, connect a serial cable from the base's serial port to the register or computer. Expected: only the cables you need are attached. Verifone recommends a surge protector.
- Plug the base's power cable into the port on the side of the base, then plug the adapter into the wall. Expected: the base is powered.
- Lower the V400m onto the base until it sits on the connector. Expected: the terminal docks and charges. The base's network ports are shared to the terminal over Bluetooth; one Full-Function Base can serve up to seven terminals.
- Choosing Wi-Fi, pairing Bluetooth to the base, or enabling cellular is done inside the payment application's menus, which vary by application and processor. If the idle screen does not connect once cables and SIM are in place, contact Allstar support. Expected: the application shows it is connected.
If that did not work
- Check every cable is fully inserted at both ends and the base adapter is in a working outlet.
- Make sure nothing metallic sits near the terminal and that the base is not next to equipment that causes electrical noise.
- If the terminal asks for a password before it will show communication settings, stop and contact Allstar support. Do not guess passwords.

Stop and contact support if
- Any tamper or security alert on the screen: stop and contact Allstar support.
- The application asks for a password to reach communication settings: stop and contact Allstar support rather than guessing.
- The SIM holder will not lock or the card does not seat: do not force it.
Contact Allstar support with the model (Plus 3G or Plus 4G), serial number, base part number, the connection type you want, your payment application and processor, and the exact message on screen.
Notes
- Verifone's hardware guides do not give the on-terminal menu steps for choosing Wi-Fi, pairing Bluetooth to the base, or enabling cellular. Those live in the payment application or the separate V400m Reference Guide (DOC475-002-EN), which was not available on docs.verifone.com when this was written.
- The Full-Function Base quick guide lists the ports and cables but no LED meanings or Bluetooth pairing steps.
- Verifone's Device Overview states the Full-Function Base includes Wi-Fi and cellular; the Specifications page lists the base's own ports as Ethernet, 56K modem, Bluetooth, USB host and USB device. Treat the base as the wired/dial path and the handset as the Wi-Fi and cellular path.
