Check first
- Is the power pack the one shipped with the terminal?
- Is the rear cover closed with the cable routed through the channel?
- Did the Verifone copyright screen appear when power was connected?
This guide covers setting up a Verifone V400c countertop terminal for the first time: where the ports are, the order Verifone wants cables connected, and what happens at power-on. The V200c uses the same steps.
Before you start
- Peripherals go on before power. Verifone states the terminal must not be connected to the power supply until all peripherals are connected.
- Use the power pack shipped with the terminal. An incorrectly rated supply can damage the unit.
- Keep the terminal indoors, away from heat, dust, moisture and direct sunlight, and at least 10 cm from metal objects.
- Ports (under the rear cover): Host USB (PIN pads, scanners, USB keyboards, flash drives), Ethernet (ETH), Multi-Communication (USB/RS-232 for a PC, cash register or PIN pad), Telco (56K modem), and the round power port. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are only on Plus models.
Steps
- Choose a flat indoor spot near a power outlet and a network or phone jack, and angle the keypad so PIN entry cannot be seen or filmed. Expected: the location meets Verifone's placement guidance.
- Unpack and inspect the terminal, power pack, phone cord and paper roll. Remove the wrap and display film. Keep the carton. Expected: nothing damaged or tampered with.
- Turn the terminal over and remove the rear cover to reach the ports. Expected: ports and the cable channel are visible.
- With power disconnected, attach any peripherals to the Host USB or Multi-Communication port. Expected: peripherals attached; some need their own power.
- Connect the network: Ethernet from the ETH port to the network jack, or a phone cord from the Telco port to a dedicated wall jack. Expected: the cable is seated at both ends.
- Load paper, insert the power pack's barrel connector into the power port, route the cable under the arrow and over the underside of the paper container, and close the rear cover. Expected: the cover closes flat with the cable in its channel.
- Plug the power pack into a wall outlet or powered surge protector, following Verifone's order: terminal, power supply, cord, wall. Expected: the terminal turns on by itself. The lights come on, the Verifone copyright screen appears, then the payment application starts.
If that did not work
- Blank display: check the power connection, remove and reapply power, and check all cables. If it persists, contact Allstar support.
- Terminal does not connect: for Ethernet, confirm the cable is in the terminal and a working network port; for dial, test the line with a phone for a dial tone and try a known-good cord. Power off the router or modem and the terminal, wait about 30 seconds, restore power and allow about 60 seconds to reconnect.
- Unit malfunctions: confirm the power supply matches the terminal's rating before anything else.
- Do not open the unit. It has no user-serviceable parts.

Stop and contact support if
- Any tamper or security alert on screen: stop and contact Allstar support.
- No application starts after the copyright screen, or the screen asks for a download: contact Allstar support. Do not attempt a download.
- The terminal does not power on from a known-good outlet with the correct power pack.
Contact Allstar support with the model (V400c or V400c Plus), serial number, payment application, processor, how it is connected (Ethernet, dial, Wi-Fi) and the exact message on screen.
Notes
- Wi-Fi and Bluetooth exist only on the Plus variants, and the hardware guide gives no menu steps for configuring them; that depends on the payment application.
- The Specifications page does not list the power pack part number; the Service and Support page lists PWR420-001-01-C (North America) and PWR420-001-02-C (EU). Use the supply shipped with the unit.
- There is no power button procedure in the guide: the terminal powers on when the power pack is connected.
