Check first

  • Is it an S1F4 or an S1F4 Pro? The model is on the label on the underside.
  • Did it come with a charging base?
  • Will it use Wi-Fi, cellular (SIM) or both?
  • Which payment app is on the terminal? Menu names differ by app.

To set up a Castles S1F4 or S1F4 Pro (Saturn 1000 F4), charge it on its base or by cable, load the paper roll so it feeds toward the screen, then hold the power button for about 2 seconds and join Wi-Fi from the payment app's menu. Cellular units take a SIM under the battery.

Before you start

  • Castles asks you to switch the wall outlet off while you connect the cables, then switch it on.
  • Check the model on the label under the terminal: S1F4 or S1F4 Pro. The paper cover opens differently on each.
  • The Wi-Fi menu belongs to the payment app, so names can differ from the examples here.
  • Allstar never publishes admin or supervisor passwords. If a menu asks for one, contact support.

Steps

  1. Charging base: connect the power supply to the base (9V socket at the back; on the S1F4 Pro base the right-angled plug fits underneath), plug it into the wall and set the terminal on the base. Expected: the terminal starts charging.
  2. No base: connect the power supply to the port with the lightning symbol, or a USB-C cable to the USB-C port. Expected: the terminal charges by cable.
  3. Charge it for at least four hours (about 50%) before first setup. Expected: the battery is at least half full.
  4. Open the printer cover. S1F4 Pro: turn the terminal over and pull the lid up at the finger recess. S1F4: press and slide the latch on the back. Expected: the paper compartment is open.
  5. Insert the roll so paper feeds from the bottom of the roll toward the screen, leave a short length out, hold it and press the cover shut until it clicks. Tear off the excess, and one full turn on a new roll. Expected: the cover is latched and paper is ready.
  6. Press and hold the power button for about 2 seconds. Expected: the screen lights up; choose the payment app if asked and follow the prompts.
  7. Open the payment app's Wi-Fi menu (for example back arrow > MENU > WIFI SETTING, or Admin Settings > Networking > WiFi), turn Wi-Fi on, pick your network, enter the password and tap CONNECT. Expected: the terminal shows the network as connected.
  8. Cellular, if no SIM was pre-installed: power off, slide the back cover down, remove the battery, insert the SIM in the SIM 2 slot, refit the battery and cover. Expected: the SIM is fitted and the terminal can use cellular.

If that did not work

Will not start: check the power supply is plugged in at the wall and into the base or terminal, leave it charging, then hold the power button again.

Restart or power off: hold the power button until the power off and restart options appear, then choose one.

Paper jams: when tearing off a receipt, pull the paper over the screen at about a 45 degree angle. Castles says this prevents jams.

Wi-Fi will not connect: re-enter the password carefully and try again. If the Wi-Fi menu is locked behind a password, contact Allstar support.

Stop and contact support if

  • The serial number shown on screen at power-on does not match the label on the underside: stop and contact Allstar support before you take payments.
  • Any tamper or security message: stop, do not reboot repeatedly, contact Allstar support.
  • A menu asks for an admin or supervisor password you do not have: do not guess. Contact Allstar support or the company that set up your merchant account.

Notes

  • All three sources are written for UK and Ireland merchants. The hardware steps (charging, paper, power, SIM) apply to the device; the Wi-Fi menu path depends on the payment app loaded for your processor, so menu names on a US unit can differ.
  • Power button side is not stated consistently: Worldpay says a grey button on the right side; the Castles guide text is garbled on this point. The guide therefore does not name a side.
  • Paper loading differs between sources: Elavon (S1F4 Pro) opens the lid from a recess with the terminal upside down; Worldpay (S1F4) uses a sliding latch on the back. Both are given; check which matches your unit.
  • The SIM procedure (back cover, battery, SIM 2 slot) comes only from Elavon's S1F4 Pro page. Worldpay ships its S1F4 units with the SIM pre-installed.
  • Powering off before fitting the SIM is a precaution added by the writer; the Elavon page says only to fit the SIM before installation.
  • Paper roll size is not stated in any source read.
