Ingenico Desk/3500 and Desk/5000: connections (dial, Ethernet, wireless) and first power-up

What is in the box, which ports sit under the rear trapdoor (phone line, Ethernet, RS232, USB, SIM, SAM), what the optional Magic Box cable kit does, which Ingenico power supply matches which model, and the order Ingenico gives for connecting cables and powering the Desk/3500 or Desk/5000 for the first time.

Check first

  • What does the label on the terminal say for power: 8V 2A, 8V 3A or 8V 4A?
  • Will the terminal use dial-up, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or cellular? Has the payment application been configured for that?
  • Is the optional Magic Box cable kit in the box, or separate cables?

This guide walks through unboxing, cabling and first power-up of an Ingenico Desk/3500 or Desk/5000 countertop terminal, following Ingenico's Desk Series user guide. It covers the hardware only; the payment application sets the actual connection parameters.

Before you start

  • Use only the Ingenico power supply that came with the unit.
  • Decide with your payment-application provider which connection the terminal will use: dial-up, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or cellular. The Desk/5000 datasheet lists dial-up modem and Ethernet as standard and 4G/3G, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi as options.
  • Have the phone cord or Ethernet cable ready, and a SIM if the unit is a cellular model.

Steps

  1. Unpack: terminal with paper roll, power supply, phone or Ethernet cable, installation guide. Keep the box. Expected: everything present and the supply type matches the terminal label.
  2. Position the terminal on a flat surface near mains and the network or phone point, away from heat, dust, vibration, screens and anti-theft gates. Indoor only, 0 to 40 C. Expected: the customer can shield the keypad.
  3. Match the supply to the label: 8V 2A wall-plug (Ethernet/modem, no radio), 8V 3A desktop (contactless), 8V 4A desktop (2G/3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth). Expected: output on the supply equals the label.
  4. With the unit unpowered, push the clip and lift the rear underside trapdoor backward. Identify the ports: phone, power, microSD, SIM 1 and 2, RS232, Ethernet, USB host, USB host/slave, optional second RS232, SAM 1 to 3 (by model). Expected: the connector row is visible.
  5. Plug in the phone cord (with country adapter if needed) if dial-up is used; a handset is not required. Then connect Ethernet, RS232 or USB as needed. Expected: cables seated in the right ports.
  6. If using the Magic Box kit, route the single over-moulded cable (power, phone, Ethernet, RS232) through the lead-through guides, trim unused sections, and secure it to the counter with the tie or adhesive support. Expected: the cable is anchored and still accessible.
  7. Plug the power lead into the power socket, close the trapdoor (land, leave 5 to 6 mm, push, clip), then plug the supply into the mains. Expected: the terminal starts. There is no power switch.

If that did not work

Ingenico's checks when the terminal does not turn on or does not connect to the phone line: check the power supply and phone cables, and check the mains supply. If a dial connection fails: confirm the line has a free dial tone and that the line configuration and number to call are correct, then get technical support. If you need a dial tone on a shared line while the terminal holds it, press the red key, disconnect the power supply, or unplug and re-plug the terminal's phone connector; the line frees within about 6 seconds.

Stop and contact support if

  • The screen flashes "Alert Irruption!": tamper detected, stop and contact support.
  • A power supply with a different output than the terminal label: do not use it; Ingenico says the supply is designed for the specific terminal.
  • Wi-Fi network, Bluetooth pairing, APN or dial number settings: these are set in the payment application and are not in Ingenico's hardware guide; contact support rather than guessing values.

Contact Allstar support with the model, serial number, the power label on the terminal, the connection type you need, and the payment application in use.

Notes

  • The Ingenico guide is a series guide ("Desk Series", published as Desk/5000 & 3000 series) and does not name the Desk/3500. Port availability is "according to the model"; the Desk/5000 datasheet confirms dial-up modem and Ethernet standard, with 4G/3G, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi optional.
  • The guide's wall-plug supply is listed as 230 V input; the desktop 3 A and 4 A supplies are 100 to 240 V. Which supply ships with US units was not stated in the document; check the label.
  • Network and dial settings are application-level and not covered by the Ingenico hardware guide.
