Ingenico terminals: cleaning and care

Ingenico's cleaning rules: unplug first, soft cloth lightly dampened with soapy water, liquid on the cloth never on the device, no solvents, bleach, abrasives, aerosols or UV-C, alcohol only on a pre-moistened cloth and never 70% isopropyl on plastic display lenses, nothing in the card slot, and keep it out of direct sun.

Check first

  • Is the screen lens plastic (most keypad-and-lens models) or glass? Ingenico forbids 70% isopropyl on plastic lenses.
  • Is the terminal unplugged and, for portable units, off the base?

This guide collects Ingenico's cleaning instructions for its Lane, Desk and Move terminals. The same core rules appear across the user guides and Ingenico's own FAQ.

Before you start

  • Unplug all cables and take portable units off the base.
  • Have a soft, lint-free cloth and mild soapy water, or a pre-moistened wipe (Ingenico's Desk guide names its wipes kit, reference 296118801).
  • Know whether the display lens is plastic or glass; 70% isopropyl is not allowed on plastic lenses.

Steps

  1. Disconnect every cable and remove the terminal from its base. Expected: fully powered down, nothing attached.
  2. Wipe the outside with a soft cloth very slightly dampened with soapy water, or a pre-moistened cloth. Expected: dirt lifts without liquid reaching seams or openings.
  3. To disinfect, use a hydroalcoholic solution only on a pre-moistened cloth. Isopropyl under 20% is allowed on all parts; 70% isopropyl is not allowed on plastic display lenses. Expected: clean surface, no haze.
  4. Keep liquid off connectors and out of openings; never spray, pour or coat cleaner on the terminal; no aerosols. Expected: connectors, card slot and grilles stay dry.
  5. Let it dry, reconnect, and power up. Expected: normal boot.

Do not use solvents, bleach, hydrogen peroxide, thinner, trichloroethylene, ketone-based solvents, ether, thymol-based agents, detergents or abrasives. Avoid excessive wiping. Do not expose terminals to UV-C lamps or leave them in direct sun. Put nothing but a payment card in the smart-card slot.

If that did not work

If liquid got into an opening, or the card reader is blocked, do not power the unit on or probe the slot. Contact support. Marks or haze from a disallowed cleaner are cosmetic wear that Ingenico says is not covered by its standard warranty.

Stop and contact support if

  • Liquid has entered an opening or connector: do not power up; contact support.
  • Something other than a payment card has been put into the smart-card slot, or the slot is blocked: do not probe it; contact support.
  • The screen flashes "Alert Irruption!" after handling: tamper detected, contact support.

Contact Allstar support with the model and serial number and describe what was used on the device and where liquid may have entered.

Notes

  • The detailed alcohol rules (hydroalcoholic on pre-moistened cloth, isopropyl under 20% anywhere, no 70% isopropyl on plastic lenses, no bleach, peroxide, thinner, trichloroethylene, ketones, ether or thymol agents, no UV-C) appear in the Lane/5000 and Lane/8000 guides. The Move/5000, Desk/2600 and Desk series guides give a shorter rule: soft cloth slightly moistened with water or soapy water, no solvents, detergents or abrasives. The Lane/3000 guide points to Ingenico's cleaning kits. The stricter Lane rules are applied to every model here as the conservative choice.
  • The Lane/7000 has no user guide on ingenico.com; it is included on the basis of the Lane/5000 and Lane/8000 wording.
  • Ingenico notes that very frequent cleaning can change the cosmetic look of some plastics and that this cosmetic wear is not covered by its standard warranty.
