Hardware insights · PCI PTS expiry tracker
PCI PTS version 5.x approvals expire on 30 April 2027. On the PCI Security Standards Council's Approved PTS Devices list, 495 of 1,478 currently approved device listings (33%) are version 5.x with that expiry date. This tracker shows which terminals and PIN pads are affected, which already expired, and which current models replace them.
Data pulled from the PCI SSC Approved PTS Devices and Expired PTS Devices lists on 10 October 2026. We update this page each quarter.
- 30 April 2027: PTS 5.x approvals expire. That is 495 approved listings, about one in three.
- Already expired: PTS 4.x POI approvals expired 30 April 2024, and 3.x on 30 April 2021.
- Next dates after that: PTS 6.x approvals run to 30 April 2032 and 7.x to 30 April 2035.
- Expired approval is a PCI status, not a shutdown. Whether a device must be replaced is decided by each payment brand, processor and acquirer. Check with yours.

Look up your terminal's PCI approval status
Type a model name (for example A920, Lane/3000 or VX520) or a PCI approval number (4-xxxxx). Covers PAX, Ingenico, Verifone, Castles, SUNMI, ID TECH, Equinox, Poynt, Clover, First Data, MagTek, AMP and NEXGO, from the PCI SSC lists pulled 10 October 2026.
One model can have several approvals for different hardware revisions. Match the approval number on your device label.
PCI PTS approval sunset schedule
Each PTS version has a fixed approval expiry date. Devices approved under that version show "expired approval" on the PCI list after that date.
| PTS version (POI devices) | Approval expiry | Status on 10 Oct 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| 1.x | 30 Apr 2014 | Expired |
| 2.x | 30 Apr 2017 | Expired |
| 3.x | 30 Apr 2021 | Expired |
| 4.x | 30 Apr 2024 | Expired |
| 5.x | 30 Apr 2027 | Approved, expires in under 7 months |
| 6.x | 30 Apr 2032 | Approved |
| 7.x | 30 Apr 2035 | Approved |
Dates for 1.x to 4.x are from the PCI SSC expired-devices notice; dates for 5.x to 7.x are the expiry dates shown on currently approved PED, EPP, SCR, SCRP, UPT and Non-PED listings. Version 1.x and 2.x UPT devices followed a slightly different schedule. HSM and key-loading devices are not covered here.

Models with both 5.x and newer approvals: check your hardware version

The approval number on the device label, or the hardware number in your purchase records, tells you which one you have.

Models whose PCI approval has already expired
Every listing for these models is on the PCI SSC expired list. PCI's own guidance is to contact the payment brands for usage mandates on expired devices; many processors no longer board new merchants on them.

How to check a specific device
- Find the PCI approval number. It is usually on the device label or in the manufacturer's spec sheet, in the format 4-xxxxx.
- Search it on the PCI list. Use the PCI SSC Approved PTS Devices list. If it is not there, check the expired list.
- Read the version and expiry date. The listing shows the PTS version and the approval expiry date.
- Ask your processor or acquirer what they require for that device, since replacement rules are theirs, not PCI's.
PCI PTS expiry FAQ
When do PCI PTS 5.x approvals expire?
30 April 2027. That is the expiry date shown on every currently approved PTS 5.x POI listing on the PCI SSC list as of 10 October 2026.
Does an expired PCI approval mean a terminal stops working?
No. Expired approval is a status on the PCI list. Whether a device can keep processing or be newly deployed is decided by the payment brands, processors and acquirers, so check with yours.
When did PTS 4.x approvals expire?
30 April 2024. Version 3.x POI approvals expired on 30 April 2021.
Which version comes after 5.x?
PTS 6.x approvals currently run to 30 April 2032 and 7.x approvals to 30 April 2035.
Why isn't my terminal brand in this tracker?
Some brands, including Dejavoo, Valor PayTech and SUNMI, are listed under the manufacturer's own company name or internal model codes, so we could not match them by name. Ask the manufacturer for the device's PCI approval number and search it on the PCI list.
Replacing terminals before April 2027?
We supply current PTS 6.x and 7.x terminals to ISOs, ISVs, processors and resellers, injected with your processor's keys and shipped in 2 to 3 business days, or blind drop-shipped to your merchants.
