Check first

  • Is the battery's white protective tab still fitted?
  • Will the A77 run on Wi-Fi, cellular, or both?
  • Which payment application and processor will it use? The app download is controlled by PAXSTORE or the ISO, not by these steps.

To set up a PAX A77, remove the white tab from the battery, fit the SIM if you need cellular data, charge it over USB-C, then hold the power button for 3 to 5 seconds and join Wi-Fi from Android Settings. The A77 is a small handheld with no printer and no Ethernet; it connects over Wi-Fi or cellular.

Before you start

  • Check the box: terminal, AC adapter, USB cable and battery.
  • Have the Wi-Fi name and password ready, or an activated SIM.
  • If Allstar programmed the unit, leave the payment application settings alone.

Steps

  1. Open the battery cover on the bottom, take out the battery and peel the white tab off until the gold POGO pins show. Expected: pins exposed. A new unit will not start with the tab fitted.
  2. With the battery out, insert the SIM or SAM card, and a microSD card if you use one. Refit the battery and close the cover. Expected: cards flat, cover shut.
  3. Plug the USB Type-C cable into the port on top of the terminal and into the PAX adapter. Expected: charging status on screen. Do not charge for more than 24 hours at a time.
  4. Hold the power button for 3 to 5 seconds. Expected: the A77 boots to the home screen or the payment app.
  5. Open Android Settings > Wi-Fi, choose the network and enter its password. If Settings itself asks for a password, see the PAX settings password guide. Expected: the Wi-Fi icon appears.
  6. When the payment app is installed, run a test sale: tap the card on the back of the terminal, insert a chip card, or swipe with the stripe facing left. Expected: the card is read and the sale continues.

If that did not work

If the A77 still will not power on after charging, see the restart guide and check the battery tab again. If the PAXSTORE Client says the terminal is not registered, the serial number has to be added in PAXSTORE by whoever manages it. Any tamper or security message: stop, do not reboot repeatedly, contact support.

  • Signs of tampering around the chip slot, or an object inside it: do not use the terminal. Contact Allstar support.
  • The PAXSTORE Client says the terminal is not registered: the serial number must be added in PAXSTORE first. Contact Allstar or whoever manages your PAXSTORE account.

Notes

  • The A77 quick setup guide prints no version or date (images on the page are dated January 2023). It covers box contents, battery, card slots, charging, power and card reading only.
  • The guide does not mention a printer; the A77 has none, so there is no paper to load.
  • Wi-Fi steps come from PAX's General FAQ for Android terminals, not from the A77 guide. PAX's connection table lists the A77 as Wi-Fi and wireless (cellular) only, no Ethernet.
  • The guide says to insert the card chip face down. That orientation has not been checked against a unit (unverified); follow any arrow printed on the terminal.
  • APN or SIM activation questions go to the SIM provider; PAX gives no APN steps.
