Exact messages this covers
Alert Irruption!
Check first
- Which model is it, and is it powered from a wall supply, a base, a battery, PoE or the register's USB port?
- Do the keys respond at all, or is the screen completely frozen?
- Is any message on screen, and what does it say exactly?
- Was a transaction in progress when it froze?
To restart an Ingenico card reader, hold the yellow key and the dot key together for about 2 seconds; the terminal reboots by itself, or switches off so you press the green key to start it again. If the keys do not respond, unplug the power supply and plug it back in (Lane and Desk models) or switch the battery unit off and on (Move/5000, Link/2500). This works for the Lane/3000, Lane/3600, Lane/5000, Lane/7000 and Lane/8000, the Desk/2600, Desk/3500 and Desk/5000, the Move/5000 and the Link/2500.
A restart is not a factory reset. It only powers the terminal down and back up, which is how Ingenico's guides tell you to switch these terminals off. A factory reset is different: on an injected terminal it wipes the encryption keys, and the terminal must be re-injected. Never try one to fix a frozen screen.
Before you start
- Finish or cancel any sale on screen first.
- Note any message on screen exactly as written before you restart; support will ask for it.
- Lane and Desk/3500 or Desk/5000 units have no battery: removing power switches them off. The Lane/3600 also has a shutdown mode entered with the green key; after that it must be powered on again.
- The Desk/2600 keeps running on its battery when unplugged, so pulling the plug alone does not restart it.
Steps
- If a transaction is on screen and the keys respond, press the red key to cancel it. Expected: the terminal returns to its idle or menu screen.
- Hold the yellow key (CLEAR) and the dot key together for about 2 seconds. Expected: the screen goes blank and the terminal restarts. Battery models may switch fully off instead.
- If it switched off and stayed off, press the green key once. On a Desk/2600, connect the power supply first, then press green. Expected: the terminal powers up and starts its payment application.
- If the keys do not respond, power-cycle it. Lane, Desk/3500 and Desk/5000: disconnect the power supply from the outlet (or the PoE or USB cable powering it) and reconnect it. Move/5000 and Link/2500: take it off the base, hold the dot key (Link/2500: the minus key right of 0) and the yellow key together for one second, then press green. Expected: the terminal powers off, then boots when power returns or green is pressed.
- Wait for the idle screen. If the reader is cabled to a PC or register and the POS still cannot see it, turn the PC or register off and on. Expected: the idle screen appears and the POS finds the card reader.
If that did not work
- A Move/5000, Link/2500 or Desk/2600 that will not turn on may have a flat or disconnected battery. Put it on its powered base or connect its power supply; Ingenico notes a fully discharged battery can take a long time to recover.
- A Lane unit that stays dark: check the cable is fully inserted into the port on the back, then try a known-good unit of the same model to see whether the fault is the terminal, the cable, the POS or the power supply.
- "Alert Irruption!" on screen means the terminal detected tampering. Stop, do not keep restarting it, and contact support.
- If it keeps freezing, contact Allstar support with the model, serial number, payment application, processor and the exact message on screen.

Stop and contact support if
- The screen repeatedly flashes "Alert Irruption!": the terminal has detected tampering and is blocked. Stop, do not restart it repeatedly, and contact support immediately.
- The terminal freezes again after every restart, or will not boot at all: stop and contact support. Do not try a factory reset; on an injected terminal it wipes the encryption keys and the terminal must be re-injected.
- A menu asks for a password or offers a terminal reset or system option: stop. Those functions are for technicians and are not needed to restart the terminal.
Contact Allstar support with the model, serial number, payment application, processor and the exact message on screen.
Notes
- The yellow + dot key restart comes from Worldline's merchant FAQs (Sweden names Move, Lane and Desk and gives about 2 seconds; Norway gives no duration). Ingenico's own Lane and Desk/3500/5000 user guides document only the power-cycle method (connect or disconnect the power supply). The key combination may behave differently under some payment applications.
- Ingenico's Move/5000, Link/2500 LE and Desk/2600 guides describe the dot (Link: minus) + yellow combination held for one second as switching the terminal off, with the green key to switch it back on. On these battery models the combination may power the unit down rather than reboot it.
- No Ingenico document read states in words that the encryption keys survive a restart. The guide treats a restart as a normal power-off and power-on, which Ingenico documents as the standard way to switch these terminals off; the key-loss warning applies to a factory reset (Allstar policy).
- Worldline's Swiss FAQ reportedly gives a 5-second hold; that page returned 404 on 2026-10-26 and is not cited.
